Empress Katia is a singer and songwriter originally from Mauritius, now living on Bundjalung Country in northern NSW, Australia. Katia has made a name for herself both through her original work and as an MC with the 420 Sound System. Empress katia performs several songs in the French Creole of her home island.
Katia has teamed up with the Riddim Squad, an all-star rhythm section featuring Keyboardist Andy V (Dub FX), bassist Rudi Quinzalez (Island Vibe Festival founder), guitarist Tom Kelly (Sky Eater) and drummer Jamie Patugalan. Together they play a selection of gritty reggae and soul infused originals and classic reggae versions. Empress Katia and the Riddim Squad is made for the big stage, the tight knit bass heavy band lays the perfect foundation for Katia's mind bending vocals
and world music flavour.
